In 1988 Queensryche released one of the greatest heavy metal albums of all time- Operation: Mindcrime. By this time in the bands career guitarists Chris DeGarmo and Michael Wilton were creating some of the best twin guitar solos in the genre. These solos became like little musical stories within the song that added class and depth to the already amazing compositions.

The solo in "Breaking The Silence" is a tour de force and one of the duo's best. DeGarmo takes the first and third sections while Wilton handles the second and fourth. In the video I make everything very clear about who's playing what. My advice is to learn the solo in chunks. Start with Degarmo's first section and get that down before moving on to Wilton's first section and so on until you have the whole thing memorized.

This classic line up of Geoff Tate, Eddie Jackson, Scott Rockenfield and Degarmo/Wilton will forever be the true representation of Queensryche in my opinion, with all due respect to the current line up. The EP through Empire are pure gold and I even like Promised Land to a lesser degree.

Tuning is standard. Key of G minor throughout.
My guitar sound was created with an ESP/LTD '87 into my Jake E Lee 20 watt head (Friedman JEL 20), and into Two Notes using a greenback loaded 4x12. I also had a Friedman Buxom Boost hitting the front end and a slight delay added in post.
