Royal Albatross ~ Update On QT ~ Morning After The Spill 💕 QT Falls Into A Hole ~ Is Okay! 3.27.22

3/27/2022 ~ Update on QT from ranger Sharyn Broni: "The presence of 4 non-breeders that culminated with a bite on the neck was a high stress situation for the chick. Most of the oil landed away from the chick. Residual oil on the bill has rubbed of onto the down overnight. Excess oil affects the insulation properties of the down, however in this case there should not be too many issues. The bulk of the oil is not on the down and the long-term weather forecast is very reasonable.

The chick is moving fine and looks reasonable, no ranger intervention is required. To discourage further spills I will not be getting too close this morning. Weigh day is only 2 days away and it is best to give the chick some time to calm down prior to the next handling attempt. QT is making its way back to the nest and falls into a hole at 5:31 and struggles to get up for 3 minutes! Finally QT manages to right itself - these rabbit holes are booby traps! Thank you for watching!
