AEF NEFL ~ Beau Is Stepping Up & Incubating TWICE Today! Another Perfect Shift Change WTG! 1.11.24

Beau has done it again! ♥ He returned to the nest tree just before noon and was hanging out & digesting the meal he had just eaten. What a crop on him!! What we are seeing when he is standing over the egg is a separation of the feathers over his crop area. It is so full the skin has stretched out showing a small patch of bare skin. This is not a brood patch. A brood patch would be lower on him past the crop area. Beau may have a brood patch starting but it is not seen in this video. If I see one I will be sure to do a video to highlight it ♥

He decides to come to the nest and incubate for the second time today! Seems like Beau is liking this new activity! He does some rolling of the egg and stays on the nest until Gabby returned! As soon as she arrived - it was like a timer went off in Beau and he immediately got up and stood by the egg signaling to Gabby for her turn on the egg. Gabby as usual screams as she makes her way back to the nest lol She takes over incubation and what a huge crop she has too! She has blood on her head feathers from the prey she ate. So both eagles ate very well today and they both shared in incubation duties ♥ This is another first for this nest and Beau made great progress today. The next big step for Beau will be bringing in food for Gabby! Food gifts go a long way in building the bond between a male and female. Gabby loves her meals - so Beau better get in hunting mode soon! If we do have a hatch, this will be one of the most important things for Beau to do - provide food daily and brood the chick. The hatchling will need to be brooded 24/7 at least for the first two weeks until it grows in its second coat of thermal down and be able to self regulate its body temperature. But until then it will be completely dependent on Gabby and Beau to brood and feed it. Thank you for watching!
