SWFL Eagles ~ Cuteness Overload! E23 at 8 Days Old! Tiny Wingers, Preening & Clown Feet 😊 1.8.24

E23 is 8 days old today and is looking exceptionally cute! M15 will leave the nest and head to the attic and E23 will have some time alone to preen its itchy feathers. The dark thermal down coat is starting to emerge and E23 will be able to start to regulate its body temperature when it grows in by the second week. E23 does some tiny wingers, will fall over in a face plant, & does a lot of preening. E23 sits on its hocks and shows off its big over-sized clown feet. These tootsies will continue to grow fast and will be out of proportion to the rest of its body. It will take weeks until E23 grows into those feet!
E23 weighs about 1 1/2 pounds and will continue to gain about 1/2 to 1 pound each week for the next 7 weeks. Like humans, growing eaglets have developmental milestones. They will spend roughly the first week of their life growing & gaining 1-2 ounces a day, going from about 3.2 ounces to roughly 16 ounces or one pound: an increase of 500% in just seven days! E23 has no siblings so it will probably be hitting the upper ends of the weight scale each week with the great parenting of M15 & E23. Enjoy this stage because it will be gone before you know it!
