Achilles Tendon Rupture Caught on Camera

Fully torn achilles tendon. This video is not for the faint of heart! Especially with the sound on. Less painful than it looks and sounds.
The achilles tendon is the most common tendon to tear, often in the mid substance area (3-6 cm proximal to the calcaneal insertion). Typically effects active people in their 30-40's, and more common in males than females (5.5:1). History of chronic achilles tendinopathy, obesity, sudden load increase, and certain antibiotics or prolonged corticosteroid use may increase the risk of tear.
In my case, none of the risk factors were present. I am not really sure why it happened to me, especially with this exercise. As a physiotherapist, I demonstrate this exercise a lot, even more complex ones without regularly tearing things... A better warm up could have helped. It is also a foot I had surgery on when I was 19, resulting in a slight calf strength deficit compared to the right. Overall, this is NOT a dangerous exercise, and more of a fluke injury.
If you think you have ruptured your achilles, please seek immediate medical attention. For related content, you can follow @416physio on IG.
