The Staple Singers is an American singing family from Mississippi crossed into the pop mainstream without compromising their gospel roots. In the fifties, they took the country gospel sounds of the Mississippi Delta and turned them into a brand new kind of music, a fusion of blues form and raw feeling that was sui generis.
Like Sam Cooke, Curtis Mayfield and Aretha Franklin, they took the music of the black church and made that soulful sound matter to anybody with ears and an open mind in a series of exceptionally popular recordings that made them well-known to a wide audience.

In 1968, the Staple Singers signed to Stax Records and released two albums with Steve Cropper. Stax Records is the home to such artists as Otis Redding, Booker T. & The M.G.s, Rufus and Carla Thomas, Sam & Dave, The Staple Singers, Isaac Hayes and so many more. Critical to American music history, Stax Records, is one of the most popular soul music record labels of all times and it garnered 167 hit songs in the Top 100 on the pop charts and a staggering 243 hits in the Top 100 R&B charts. The story of Stax is like no other and people of all ages are continuously drawn to the music. ,

The Staple Singers was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999 and the Blues Hall of Fame in 2017.
