Fix Your Home Office Posture and Get Rid of Pain and Contact Stress
Working from home has benefits but you need to fix your home office posture if you've got pain, tight muscles, and sore shoulders.
Your home office setup can contribute to poor posture as well as contact stress problems. If you're leaning an arm, wrist, or elbow on home office furniture, you're contributing to postural problems and increasing your risk of injury.
If you've had wrist pain when working in your home office, you're probably concerned about repetitive strain injuries and the risk of carpal tunnel syndrome.
Long term solutions to these types of soft tissue injuries include months of physical therapy, rehabilitation and may include the need for surgery. We want to fix your home office posture before it gets to this point!
So I'm giving you home office postural solutions that are proactive not only for carpal tunnel syndrome but other issues caused by contact stress and body alignment problems that happen in your home office.
So we need to take a step back and take a look at why contact stress is happening. If you were sitting with proper body alignment, if your postures were neutral, you wouldn't be looking for a place to support your body.
When your natural posture isn’t neutral posture, you accommodate by finding accommodations, some of which cause contact stress.
So by taking one step back and looking at your posture in your home office (as well as elsewhere!) we can find lasting solutions, not just for contact stress, but for problems with body mechanics as well.
So what I'd like you to do is a Contact Stress Check
1) Check your posture when you’re working.
2) Check to see if you've got any areas of contact stress you're using for support.
3) Look to see what happens to your body and what muscles would be working extra hard (and getting tired, sore, and overworked) if you removed the support you’re currently using.
Let me know below what you’re ‘leaning’ on and if you need help determining what muscles you’re trying to rescue with contact stress.
