Elvis Presley - Trying To Get To You - 3 March 1974 Afternoon Show - The Houston Astrodome

This song was always a good indication of the sort of form that Elvis was in on a show by show basis. If he was feeling good then more often than not between 1974 and 1977 it would be included and conversely the opposite would also be true. There are of course exceptions in both cases but more often than not this rule would certainly apply.
It was the fourth song of Elvis’ legendary afternoon show in The Houston Astrodome, the only venue which saw Elvis perform solely with the TCB band on stage during the seventies. The size of the stage prevented Joe Guercio and his orchestra from being present at both of these shows but the show seemed to benefit from this. Elvis and the band gave just that little bit extra to fill the areas left bare by the lack of orchestra.
Elvis’ rendition of the song is among the finest that he performed on stage and this is indicative of all renditions during this tour.
This was just the third show of Elvis’ first tour of 1974 which culminated in a wonderful show in Memphis on 20 March 1974, a show which produced a Grammy winning rendition of How Great Thou Art.
