My Dad Was Lost For 10 Years

Diane wants to tell you a story about a real miracle that actually happened to her. It was a huge and unexpected miracle.

She was born into a poor family that had many children. There were 7 of them: her, her sister and 5 younger brothers. She was the second one, and when she was 6 years old their 7th brother was born. Only their father had a job, mom was always busy with the 7 of them or cleaning the house, so they didn’t have very much money, but they were happy.

But then things got more difficult. Dad was laid off from his job do to an economic crisis and they didn’t have anything to eat, saying nothing about clothes or entertainment. Dad was trying hard to get another job, but the economic crisis had effected everyone and lots of people applied even to have a janitor’s job because people were starving. And the number of mouth to feed in their family required a good salary. So, dad made a very hard decision to go abroad. Lots of their people did this. He had to go to another country and take a different job on a building crew. The employer gave him a place to live and dad sent all of his salary to support their family.

Dad called them almost every day. At first, he told them that the job was hard but was steady work. With his every call thy felt like his enthusiasm was getting lower. Then he started complaining that he had to live in a tiny room without windows with bad food and no days off.

But his situation was OK since he hadn’t expected a luxury hotel when he left us. The main problem was that he had to fight to even get his pat and that was very stressful. The salary was always late. Actually happened his boss created different excuses not to pay him and even made up small mistakes like, “you put the bucket to the wrong place”. For this the boss paid him less money.
Dad complained and promised to get back as soon as he’d finish the month and get his pay.

Mom cried a lot, but finally pulled herself together. The food was running low and they were very near starvation. So, Diane’s mother had to go work as a market vendor and her sister and her as the elder children had to take care of the babies. At the same time her mom was trying everything she could think of to find their father. But it was useless. The years passed and dad wasn’t found.

Step by step, they got better. Mom was working and they helped as they could. They grew fruits and vegetables in their garden and sold it in the market. They also tried other things and got so that they almost got used to living without their father. It was much easier for their younger brothers because they barely remembered him.

Ten years later, when Diane was cooking in the kitchen, someone knocked their door. She opened it and immediately wanted to close it because there standing in front of the door was a dirty, toothless, homeless person with a long beard smelling very bad smell. But then she felt pity for him. He asked for water and she offered some food. It is very dangerous to let unknown people into your home, but he didn’t look like someone dangerous. At the age of 16 she looked more healthy and stronger than he did, so she decided to let him in.

They chatted for an hour, and then she was going to go running near the lake. What is weird, her guest came with her. After a while she stopped to put some water on her face. At that moment the old man whispered behind her back: “don’t fall in the water, carrot.” And she fell straight into the lake.

That was a special code phase they used with her dad! It was a tradition in their childhood. Only her dad called her carrot when he would warn her not to fall in the lake like that! She was truly shocked!

When they got home, her mom opened the door and saw her standing there wet and with some homeless man.

Mother didn’t want to believe that it was really their dad, but when he shaved, she recognized him by a mole under his upper lip.

Their dad then told them that those people he worked for found out that he wanted to leave and so they stole all his documents and even his phone. And then they made him work for them for free for 10 years! They fed him very poorly and gave him a bad place to sleep.

He was just thrown out to onto the street. Fortunately, some good people found him near the train station and gave him money for a ticket home. Dad had to work to improve his health for a long time, but that didn’t matter anymore. He was home and everything was going to be fine.

So, don’t ever quit trying to help others. If you believe in good, then good will happen. Diane knows for sure, because her miracle actually happened - after 10 years her dad finally came back home.
