Nick has managed to survive and find happiness despite his physical disabilities.

Nick was born in Australia, in a family of Serbian immigrants. His Mom is a nurse who delivered hundreds of babies into the world. She knew she was expecting a baby herself when she was 25. As a health professional, she knew to stay off any medicine and under thorough supervision by doctors. Nick was a loved and wanted child. His birth would be celebrated if not for his disability. His Mom couldn't even look at him for four months, let alone touch him. But his Dad endured the harsh reality with fortitude and helped her get over the shock.

In the 90s, Australia passed the Disability Discrimination Act which ruled that handicapped children should attend mainstream schools. You can imagine how Nick's classmates treated him. Without arms or legs, he had to make the best out of his single deformed foot. After his toes were surgically separated, Nick could use it as a hand. He didn't have any friends back then, no one to support him or stand up for him. "We don't want to be friends with you!", "You can't do anything!", "You're nobody!" – these are the words Nick would hear at school every day. The only people he had were his adoring parents who did their best to shelter him from the cruel world and to teach him love and kindness.

As Nick got older, he thought about his future, which appeared to be grim and joyless. The first hints of depression caught up with him when he was 8, and at 10, he lost his will to live. He had been waiting for a miracle, for God to give him back his limbs. But that didn't happen, and then Nick decided he'd fight his depression and learn to love himself. He found his calling in sharing his story and serving as an example for others. The school janitor was the one who persuaded Nick to give a talk in front of his classmates. Nick got very emotional but it was good: his audience was fascinated. This inspired him to call other schools as well. Some refused. But the news of his performance spread around the town and he began to receive invitations to speak at similar events. Nick learned to be persuasive. In seventh grade, he became the class prefect, and he graduated from the university with a double major.

Writing a book made Nick famous. Now, he travels the world to help people believe in themselves and find their inner strength. Life has played a joke on him, so he jokes about himself too.

Once, Nick pranked the passengers of an airliner. He dressed up in the captain's uniform and he greeted them at the ramp, saying: "Today, we're trying out a new piloting technology." Imagine the fear and indignation on their faces! But that was quickly replaced by laughter and then Nick gave a motivational talk on the flight.

Nick tried his hand – so to speak – at acting when they made a short film about him. He can even boast some sports achievements. There are no limits but those we set for ourselves. After Nick stopped limiting himself, he learned skydiving, surfing, tennis, and swimming.

Nick first realized he was a gifted public speaker when he spoke at his university. The students were crying and applauding, and one girl walked up to the stage to hug him. Now it was his duty to help them, the people who had arms and legs. But rather than tell them sob stories about his issues, Nick helped them by making them see the importance of changing themselves instead of trying to change the world.

Once, Nick was giving a talk in California when he saw a couple with a child who looked just like Nick. He asked them to come to the stage, seeing the familiar pain and love in the child's parents. The child put his only foot on top of Nick's: this was their handshake. Nick was overcome with a feeling of kinship and support: this child wasn't alone, he had someone to teach him confidence and happiness.

As a kid, Nick despaired at the thought that he'd never be a husband or a father. But God blessed him with the miracle he had been waiting for: his wife Kanae. She gave him two sons and two lovely daughters. Nick banished his worries about them possibly inheriting his tetra-amelia, and God was on his side: He gave Nick healthy children. You cannot live your life to the fullest if your decisions are driven by fear. Fear will suffocate and restrain you.

Nick is 36 but he still believes in miracles. He keeps a pair of shoes in his closet: what if he wakes up one morning and jumps to his own feet? But he's not afraid to stay the way he is because he has found his happiness and he uses whatever time he has to help others be better people.
