Raccoon Attacks Eagle

In this video, the raccoon climbs up the nest tree and takes food from the nest. It retreats for a moment and then returns to grab the oldest of the two eaglets, who bravely stands up to the raccoon and tries to ward it off with outstretched wings. The eaglet was taken alive and pulled over to the side of the nest as the raccoon retreated in haste when the parent returned to the nest. Dad gives chase to the ‘coon and for the next hour or so, an eagle can be seen flying around the nest tree and vocalizing until after dark. Dad returns to the nest and stays with the eaglet for the remainder of the night. The person filming did not see both parents in the nest that day. The Colorado Wildlife Agency arrived within the hour of being called to search for the eaglet. Many thanks were given to the agency for their speedy arrival and attention to this matter. Sadly, they found the eaglet's remains and took them to be tested for Avian Influenza. Their hearts were broken! The night before, Mom had brought a young live raccoon to the nest and fed it to the eaglets.

Was this a random unrelated visit by a hungry raccoon or was there more to it? Might it have been looking for its baby? Nobody knows, but this is life in the wild. A webcam that was set up above an osprey nest, close to the lake, captured nature’s ferocity in disturbing detail on an early morning, as a raccoon climbed into the perch, attacked the mother osprey and killed the two young chicks inside. The attack happened in a nest that sits about 15 meters high on a post. In this video, capturing the moment of the attack, the mother osprey looks around nervously, sensing the raccoon’s approach. She raises her wings, chirps, and huddles close to the chicks as they sleep. Then, the osprey pounces on the edge of the nest as the raccoon’s head appears. The raccoon quickly climbs into the nest, tussles briefly with the osprey, and goes in for the kill as the helpless chicks lay still. One of the dead chicks was still lying in the nest until the early morning before the father osprey returned to remove its remains. This bald eagle defends the nest and its eggs when a sneaky raccoon tries to grab them. The next day, the eggs appeared intact, and the eagles seemed to be nesting normally.

Snake Hunts Chameleon

In this video, a snake decides to attack a chameleon, presumably, because it wandered through the snake's territory, but after striking the chameleon and pausing, the snake, for some reason decides to retreat. It must be something the chameleon said. If you thought a boomslang was some new dance or music group, think again. It's only one of the most toxic snakes in Africa, and a chameleon's camouflage is no match for this slithering lethal weapon. The chameleon in this video is past the introduction phase, and because this snake liked the small lizard so much, it decided to eat it.
