Capone, Nitti, O'Banion, Weiss, Burial Site Mt. Carmel Cemetery
Mt. Carmel cemetery is the oldest Catholic burial ground in the Chicago area. Located in Hilside Il. on Roosevelt Rd. (Rt. 38) west of Wolf Rd. on the north side of the street. It's where that areas bishops are laid to rest and there's a large war memorial with artillery pieces. It is also where nearly all the major players in Chicago "beer war" that raged during the roaring 20's were laid to rest.
In our tour we see the gravesites of Al Capone, Frank Nitti, the "terrible" Genna's, Dion O'Banion and Hymie Weiss. There are many other gangsters also buried here but we're featuring the heavy hitters.
This clip is part of our series "Chicago Crime Now & Then" where we explore the windy city's rich history of organized criminal activity.
