New Deal Era Artwork At Evanston Il. Post Office

There is some excellent works of “New Deal” art on display at the main Evanston post office located at 1101 Davis St. in that northern Chicago suburb. The building was contructed in 1938 and a competition was held among the artists working for the Treasury Department to create art for the new facility. Robert I. Russin of New York City created the two cast aluminum sculptures for the interior lobby. The sculptures, “Throwing the Mail” and “Mail Handler”, are each 7′ by 5.5' and are covered with gold foil. Armin a. Scheler of New Rochelle, New York created the outside carved limestone reliefs entitled “The Message” and “The Answer”.

This is another in a new series of video clips shot in the Evanston area. There was our day after the Presidential election visit to the Bahi Temple. Then this spring we visited the Levere Memorial Temple and Peace Chapel home to a history of the United States told in a series of stained glass windows and some real odd art involving midgets. Anyway they can be found in our northern suburbs playlist. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLkOfxruvmJEduA0ngtUlFNy1y0SF2q6XN
