LINDA RONSTADT Love Me Tender

No retrospective of 1979 would be complete without an inclusion (or three) of the recordings of Linda Ronstadt. Linda was a radio and chart mainstay for most of the 1970's and indeed through the next decade too. 'Living In The USA' had been issued in the last part of 1978, and several single made the charts around the world into 1979 including 'Just One Look' and 'Back In The USA' most notably downunder where the singer enjoyed great popularity. In America 'Ooh Baby Baby' was huge, but here the song tanked and it was backed with this Elvis Presley cover, making only as far as #76 in the fall of 1979. The album was a #1 Billboard success and was her 6th consecutive platinum selling LP - a record back then. There is little argument that Linda Ronstadt is one of the greatest vocalists of the latter part of the 20th century. Her versatility knowing literally no bounds and her distinct and powerful yet sensitive tones putting her in a class all of her own.
