Queensryche was at the forefront of creative songwriting in the early to mid stages of their career. The combination of guitarists Chris DeGarmo and Michael Wilton was magical.

Although the band definitely had a metal edge, they also combined the heavy riffs with beautiful clean, arpeggiated intros and layers throughout many of their songs. I would go so far as to call songs like "The Lady Wore Black" and "Take Hold Of The Flame" majestic masterpieces. They set an atmospheric mood and take you away to another place.
