MY ALASKAN Cabin Project (The First Window) - Wk 14
Well the windows and door finally arrived and I'm going to spend a couple of weekends installing them. Installing or "setting" a window properly in a log wall is always a time-consuming task, but I have added several extra details to these windows which make the project even more challenging than usual. Please let me know if you have questions about anything I am doing.
The interior side of the wall will not be addressed in this video, that will come later with the rest of the interior finishes.
Also, in order to clarify, this project is not an off-grid cabin. It is built on the outskirts of the community where I live. So far, all the power for the project has been provided by a small 2000 watt portable generator, but I plan to run permanent power to the lot in the near future.
I am glad to be able to introduce you the "old homestead" in the intro. I may show you more details on that cabin in another video. Milling the logs and dimensional lumber for that cabin took an entire winter. Much of it was done with a simple chainsaw mill. I wanted the building to look like the old Appalachian-style log cabin, complete with traditional dove-tailed corners. It took me a while to figure out the different joinery required. It turned out nice though.
And then finally, the Outro. Yes, I know I am bragging on my grandson, a boy after my own heart. There is no place Drox would rather be than out in the woods building something wonderful.
Love you guys so much.
Peace.
