Starling Murmurations - DBLM Wildlife

Things weren't looking good. It was Halloween - and I had arrived to film the Blue Moon rising from the horizon. The rain had cleared, it was blue sky everywhere - apart from a blanket of cloud in the east, from where this extra special Moon should have made its appearance.
But in the world of Nature anything can happen. Often what you hope to see doesn't appear - and if luck is on your side then there is always the chance of a pleasant surprise instead.
I think this was the classic 'right place at right time'. I had seen previous distant murmurations in the Maxey area - but this spectacle came out of nowhere and lasted around six minutes. It was filmed continuously but the weaker moments have been edited out.
The spectacle is captured just to the south of Maxey, in an area of North Cambridgeshire surrounded by numerous former-gravel working pits, now very much a reserve for nature. If the soundtrack is intriguing then its is explained by the River Welland in some degree of flood, captured by the side of a totally covered weir and hopefully as relaxing to hear as the starlings are to watch.
