The Great Marquess on the West Highland DBLM Steam (archive content)

More archive content, this time featuring Gresley's K4 locomotive 61994 The Great Marquess back in May and June 2011 - one of a small class of just seven locomotives designed specifically for the steep gradients and tight curves of the West Highland line from Glasgow to Fort William - and the West Highland extension to Mallaig. This was an almost unique opportunity in the preservation era to see the locomotive on 'home turf' and to appreciate its fantastic three-cylinder beat hauling some substantial loads.
The material has been greatly edited from a home-made DVD in my highlights of steam collection - so don't expect 2021 standards in production! The scenes were often captured in a hurry - following the train, arriving at the last minute, and resorting to hand-held or a monopod instead of the solid reliable tripod. I'm always keen to capture the best moments on the best gradients or leaving station-stops and this can clearly be at the expense of selecting the very best location as a one-off. Nevertheless I'm hoping this will appeal to Gresley fans (and to those addicted to the three cylinder sounds of LNER V2s, K3s, A3s, O2s etc) - and that the exhaust beat, the clanks and the squeaks will serve up some special nostalgia!
A few Black Five scenes have crept in near the end - they were filmed during the same visit - and I just couldn't leave them out!
