Wallace Creek Shift at San Andreas Fault - Carrizo Plain National Monument
I guess the San Andreas Fault runs all through Carrizo Plain National Monument, North to South, but unless one has access to a drone or an airplane, the 1857 shift of Wallace Creek is probably the best exemplar of the fault and the forces in play. It is still incredibly hard for me to fathom that the creekbed shifted 420 feet at once. Now I need to go look up the 1857 California Earthquake and see what records exist of that sort of mayhem.
