Dwarf Cuttlefish (Sepia Bandensis) Sparring at Steinhart Aquarium
Dwarf Cuttlefish (Sepia Bandensis) are amazing and beautiful creatures and I find myself drawn to their tank at Steinhart Aquarium in Golden Gate Park. On this day, prior to feeding time, the tank denizens were animated and aggressive in their color displays and their actions. These critters have an incredible ability to mold their form and meld their chroma in an amazing variety of ways. Whether attempting to mesmerize prey or show their neighbors how frightening and impressive they are, these glorified clams put most magicians to shame. Once they'd had their fill of shrimp, they settled into a stupor of calm and retreated to their various haunts in their watery home.
