What Lies Beneath that Dark Spot on Your Tooth?

We've all wondered - what lies beneath that dark spot on my molar tooth? Is it a cavity, or nothing at all?

When you have a NEW dark spot on your tooth, you should definitely get it checked by a dentist.

As you can see in the video, a very small black spot on this tooth ended up being a large carious lesion - that is, a CAVITY.

Cavities can grow underneath the enamel unchecked for a long time without causing you any pain... until one day. Then BOOM - you've got yourself a serious tooth ache.

Dentists can detect a cavity long before it ever becomes a serious issue, so having your routine dental exam on a regular basis can save you both you and your wallet from a world of pain (FYI, tooth aches are much more expensive to deal with than cavities!)

Not all dark spots are cavities - if your dentist is watching an area because they believe its safe to do so, then you don't have to worry. Dentists will watch a dark spot and reassess it at each check-up to see if the spot has remained stable or has led to decay.
