Walter Learning
Walter Learning (b. 1938) was born in Newfoundland and first exposed to theatre through Leslie Yeo’s London Theatre Company. In 1968 he left a teaching position at Memorial University of Newfoundland to become general manager of the Beaverbrook Playhouse in Saint John, NB, and the next year he developed a professional company called Theatre New Brunswick to tour the province. He left in 1978 to become the Canada Council’s Theatre Officer; subsequent positions included artistic director of the Vancouver Playhouse and the Charlottetown Festival.
