Christopher Newton
Christopher Newton (b. 1936) was born in England and came to North America to pursue graduate studies in English literature. His professional career began with the Canadian Players in 1961, and continued with roles at the Vancouver Playhouse, Shaw Festival, Stratford Festival, and on Broadway. In 1968 he became the founding artistic director for Theatre Calgary, which he followed with successful tenures at the Vancouver Playhouse (1973-79) and the Shaw Festival (1980-2002).
