Cher ~ Take Me Home 1979 Disco Purrfection Version

Cher had quite a few hits from the mid sixties to the early 70's that established her as a star. After that run of hits, she hit a dry spell for most of the 70's until Michelle Aller and Bob Esty wrote a song with her in mind, "Take Me Home". The album was her fifteenth release and came out during the disco era in early 1979.

Her previous three albums were duds and she was looking for a way back in when she approached Neil Bogart at Casablanca with the idea of doing a rock disco album as she lacked confidence in singing disco music. Bogart advised her to do a disco album and against her better judgement went with him to record the "Take Me Home" Album. She need not have worried, that iconic voice was bathed in the best melodies and session players to fill out the orchestral sound of the song which gave her a #8 Hot100 hit and announced her return. In the clubs, the 12" version (same as album version) peaked at #2 for four weeks in March of 1979. It was kept out of the top disco spot by Rod Stewart "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy" and Instant Funk "I Got My Mind Made Up". Surprisingly, it also peaked at #21 on the R&B chart.

While it brought her back to radio, it did not last long and the next time radio picked up her single was in 1988 with "I Found Someone" which began her third comeback and this one took her all the way to Believe in 1990 a #1 Hot100 hit up to today she is now 87 and still rocking it with a 36 year old bf. Good for her, she deserves it!
