Kim Carnes & Nile Rodgers ~ Invitation To Dance 1985 Disco Purrfection Version

Back in 1974 MGM did something extraordinary....tooting their horn on their 50th anniversary, they released the film "That's Entertainment". It was MGM reminding us that yes, they knew their place in history. The story is told through the hundreds of clips of classic movies in all genres introduced by the stars of MGM then and now doiong big box office. It was a nostalgia inducing drug. Throughly entertaining and informative, never dragging in story.

1985 was the year the film "That's Dancing", a movie similar in construction and just as engrossing, compiled a soundtrack where they wisely commissioned contemporary artists for soundtrack singles and Kim Carnes accepted the offer. that gave her the opportunity to work with legend Nile Rodgers who produced, mixed the song and played guitar.

It was a group effort to write but Kim enlisted Brian Fairweather, Dave Ellingson, and Martin Page once of the group Q-Feel best known for their 1982 synth driven new wave tune "Dancing In Heaven (Orbital Be-Bop)"

The single was released on January 19, 1985 at #85 the lowest of 10 new songs that week. David Lee Roth's "California Girls" beat her by placing at #43. The #1 Hot100 hit was Madonna with "Like A Virgin" at its fifth week. "Invitation To Dance" peaked at #68 spending only four weeks there. It did well on the disco/dance chart rising to #13 in the 12" vinyl version and dropped off the chart 11 weeks later.
