Get That Sound: Beefy Out Of The Box Tuning Process

This particular tuning is one that I know is not shown a lot on this page because I don’t tend to play the drum right out of the box.

So, I figured it would be a good idea to walk through my process of this tuning as is.

The snare drum used in this video is the Noble & Cooley 14” x 7” steam-bent Cherry/Tulip Hybrid snare drum w/ re-rings. (Evans/N&C 90’s vintage stock heads)

All I did tuning-wise with this snare drum was tune up the bottom head from a medium-high tuning to a high tuning.

This tuning is created by applying a quarter turn to each tension rod on the snare side.

The batter side drum head had a previous tuning that was medium-highish, so I kept it.

The drum heads were pretty thin, so it didn’t take much tension to get this drum singing even at this lower tuning.

I love it when companies like Noble & Cooley continue to innovate and improve what they have already done.

This snare drum is a beautiful example of that, and I’m excited to dig more into this beautiful drum in the upcoming weeks.
