This comparison is long overdone and yet so talked about by drummers all over the world.

Wooden Tip Drum Sticks VS Nylon Tip Drum Sticks. (using Vater Drumsticks Extended Play Power 5B)

Before we start, let’s get to know these two kinds of stick types.

A wooden tip is simply the tip of the drumstick that creates contact with the head or cymbals that you have. It is cut to size in the factory by a CNC machine, along with the rest of the stick.

On the other hand, a nylon tip is created in the factory and glued on after the making of the drumstick. It's a pretty simple construction but requires the quality of the materials to be precise.

As you all can hear, we are getting slightly more definition in the cymbal when using the nylon tip than when we use a wooden one. That’s it.

You get the same fullness when you lay into the cymbal and no different when you hit drums. The difference is in whatever genre of music you play and what roll the tip of the drumstick plays in that.
