Turkey’s Black Sea Gas Discovery | Sakarya Gas Field | 5 Years of Energy Independence Journey

Five years ago, Türkiye made history in the Black Sea.
On July 20, 2020, the Turkish drilling ship Fatih discovered 320 billion cubic meters of natural gas at the Tuna-1 well — the largest natural gas discovery in the country’s history.

This discovery laid the foundation of the Sakarya Gas Field, located 170 km offshore at a depth of 2,200 meters. A 170 km pipeline was built to bring the gas from the deep sea to the mainland — and in April 2023, Turkish natural gas reached the shores for the first time.

🔹 9.5 million cubic meters of gas produced daily
🔹 Over 4 billion cubic meters extracted so far
🔹 4 million households already benefiting
🔹 Target: 16 million households by 2028
