Jorge Urrutia Blondel (1905-1981) was a Chilean Composer. Urrutia Blondel carried out his humanistic studies at the National Institute of Santiago and later entered a law degree at the University of Chile. In parallel and privately, he studied with the teachers Andrés Steinfort (Music Theory and Harmony), Raúl Hügel (Piano), Pedro Humberto Allende (Harmony and Composition) and Domingo Santa Cruz (Counterpoint).

In 1924 he actively participated in the work of the Bach Society, encouraged by Domingo Santa Cruz with other musicians. Urrutia Blondel was part of the Board of Directors, as well as critic and editor of the magazine "Marsyas", published by the same institution. Four years later he was appointed secretary of the National Conservatory of Music, when the reform of this center took place. This same year he received a scholarship from the Government to study in Europe, where he met Charles Koechlin, Vincent d'Indy, Paul Dukas and Nadia Boulanger, at the École Normale in Paris, as well as Paul Hindemith and Hans Mersmann at the Hochschule für Musik de Berlin (1928-1931). Upon returning to Chile he was appointed Professor of Harmony and Composition at the Conservatory.

As a teacher he had among his students Juan Amenábar, José Vicente Asuar, Darwin Vargas Wallis and Miguel Aguilar.
