Ricardo Castillo (1891-1966) was a Guatemalan Composer. After starting in Quetzaltenango, Ricardo Castillo had the opportunity to study violin and composition at the Paris Conservatory. His talent for composition was soon noted, and his first piano pieces were published in Paris by the publishing houses of E. Gallet and J. Gamelle. In 1918 he married the young French pianist Georgette Contoux, with whom he settled in Guatemala City in 1922.
From that year to 1960, Castillo was a professor at the National Conservatory, in charge of statistics for the history chairs of Music, Harmony, Counterpoint, Composition and Orchestration. As a composer he valued the indigenous heritage of Guatemala, a position he shared with his brother Jesús Castillo. His works are often based on Mayan mythology, with a very personal musical style that presents elements of French impressionism and neoclassicism of his time. He composed the music for the hymn to Central America
