Pedro Morales Pino (1863-1926) was a Colombian Composer. His parents, were very humble people and due to this condition he had to sell sweets from a very young age, a circumstance that directly related him to street musicians and troubadours. This proximity aroused his interest in music. The mother of the future interpreter, realizing his aptitude, gave him a Colombian tiple and a course taught by maestro José Hoyos. At the age of 13 he traveled with his family to Ibagué where he began a career as a painter; As he also excelled in this field, he got a scholarship to study in Bogotá at the Alberto Urdaneta Drawing Academy.

In 1890, Pedro Morales Pino decided to make compositions based on Colombian folklore and oral musical tradition using the techniques of academic musical composition. A year earlier, on July 22, 1889, he received a tribute for his contribution to national music. Next, he traveled to Medellín where he was commissioned to create the Lira Antioqueña group. While in Guatemala with his group, he falls in love with the pianist Francisca Llerena whom he married in 1905. His wife died and Pedro Morales Pino returned to Guatemala trying to recover from this loss and where he lived until 1917 when he decided to return to Colombia due to the earthquake that it hit the Central American country. One year before his death, he wins the National Music Competition. His health was weakening and his financial situation was deficient, to the point of having to sell the decorations that he had received throughout his musical career. Finally, seriously ill, he was admitted by his children, due to lack of resources, in the charity room of the "Hospital San José" in Bogotá, where two of his friends, found him. When they learned of his seriousness, they installed him in a medical center with better conditions, but his health did not improve, which is why he died two days after the transfer, on March 4, 1926.

It is not only as a composer that he receives the influences of Colombian folklore, but his work as a musician made it possible to publicize and expand Colombian musical genres such as bambuco, pasillos and dance in other territories, in addition to incorporating European music in typical groups which allowed the people to have access to it. Also, he perfected some instruments such as the Colombian Andean bandola or bandolin to which he added five more strings, creating the 16-string variant of such instrument.
