R.Delgado Palacios - Valse "Lucila", for Piano
Josu Gallastegui - Piano
Ramón Delgado Palacios (1863-1902) was a Venezuelan Composer.
He dedicated himself to the composition of lounge music, 45 works for piano, made up of dance pieces in the Venezuelan style, especially his waltzes - the most revealing work of his style - always shown wrapped in a painful and nostalgic halo. His melodies of great charm and delicacy are almost always written in a minor key, as if he sought in this way to create an atmosphere of melancholy and sadness, on a surface of genuinely Venezuelan colors.
His influence reaches as Antonio Lauro, María Teresa Rodríguez (teacher of Juan Vicente Lecuna) and William Bolcom, among others.
In 1905, his widow, the composer and pianist Rosario Silva Simonovis, published three of his waltzes.
Pianists such as Evencio Castellanos, Davis Ascanio, Juan Francisco Sans, Elizabeth Guerrero, Carmencita Moleiro, Giomar Narváez, Monique Duphil, Juan Vicente Torres, who have performed and recorded some of their waltzes and merengue dances on disk.
Of all of them, it is perhaps Guiomar Narváez who communicates a genuine Venezuelan feeling to his interpretations, characterized in the lightness of his phrasing and the lyricism that emanates from his interpretations.
