Indigenous issues debate could get ‘very ugly’ after Voice defeat
Sky News host Chris Kenny says parliamentary debate on Indigenous issues could get “very ugly” after the defeat of the Voice referendum last Saturday.
His remarks come as the opposition attacks the government for not supporting its repeated call for a royal commission into child sex abuse in Indigenous communities.
“I hate to say it, but it is the sort of thing an Indigenous representative body of some kind or another might recommend to government,” Mr Kenny said.
He said the debate on Indigenous issues has become “difficult” for both Labor and the Coalition.
“What Anthony Albanese needs to do, at the very least, is form a bipartisan committee to deal with these issues – the sort of committee he was going to set up to oversee the Voice – he now needs it to deal with these issues.”
