‘A real privilege’: Dave Sharma wins Liberal preselection for Senate

Former Liberal MP Dave Sharma says it is a “real privilege and an honour” for him to make a return to federal politics following his Senate position win.

Mr Sharma has pulled off a shock preselection victory to fill Marise Payne's vacated New South Wales Coalition seat in the Senate.

He beat the running favourite – former New South Wales government minister Andrew Constance – who was endorsed by Opposition leader Peter Dutton.

To roughly 500 delegates at the Fullerton Hotel in Sydney on Sunday, the former Israel Ambassador focused on foreign policy issues.

Mr Sharma is entitled to hold the Senate seat for the next two terms.
