The Edge Fitness Review: Is This Gym Worth It?

If you’re looking to join a gym in the U.S., chances are you’re considering a lot of the usual suspects like Planet Fitness, LA Fitness, or the YMCA.

But there are other options!

If you’re living on the East Coast or in the Midwest, there’s a pretty good chance that there’s an Edge Fitness Club not far from you.

The Edge has been in business for 30 years, and it’s obviously got a great name — but is The Edge Fitness worth joining? Will it have all the equipment and amenities you’re looking for?

We’ll find out in this Edge Fitness gym review.

How much does The Edge Fitness Club cost?

The Edge currently offers 3 levels of membership, depending on which amenities you need and how much you’re willing to pay per month.

The Edge Red Membership starts at about fourteen ninety nine in most locations and gets you access to a single club, but you won’t be able to take part in group classes, bring guests, or access tanning and massage amenities.

The Edge Fit costs a bit more, but lets you hop around to different Edge Fitness locations and take part in most, but not all, of the amenities on-site.

The Edge Total membership can run around thirty four ninety nine depending on location and gives you access to everything this gym has to offer, including unlimited guest passes, a women’s only gym area, spin class, tanning, and more.

Often, you can sign up for a 12 or 24 month commitment, with a longer contract netting you a better monthly deal.

The Edge Fitness Club Equipment, Features & Amenities

Joining The Edge is pretty reasonable compared to the cost of most commercial gyms. But what does your money actually get you at this club?

Equipment

Each location provides a spacious workout floor that’s fully equipped with both free weights and resistance machines.

There are enough heavy dumbbells, power racks, and plates to meet the needs of most strength athletes.

At the same time, there are plenty of resistance machines to meet the needs of beginners or anyone who prefers machine work.

Each gym also has a functional training room that is fitted out with gear like battle ropes, weight sleds, boxes, and more.

Most Edge locations also offer a private women’s training room, though you’ll need a Fit or Total membership to access this area.

Inside the Edge Cinema, you’ll crank away on your favorite cardio machine while enjoying Hollywood blockbuster movies on a massive, state-of-the-art screen.
Classes

The Edge Fitness clubs excel when it comes to group fitness classes.

Each and every week, members can enjoy:

Les Mills classes
Cycling classes
Zumba
Strength
Dance cardio
Yoga
Women’s only classes
And more

Remember that you’ll need the Fit Membership or higher to access group classes.

Child Care

The Edge Kids program lends a helping hand to busy parents who might otherwise struggle to make it to the gym.
Edge Kids operates as a drop-in center for children ages 12 weeks to 12 years. Children are supervised by qualified professionals as long as the parent or guardian is at the gym.

Children can even be given a specialized age-appropriate fitness activity (like basketball, rock wall climbing, games, and more.) so the whole family can stay active together!

The Edge Kids service will, however, incur a charge in addition to your membership. Prices will vary between facilities.

Pool & Spa

The Edge Fitness Clubs offer premium sauna facilities. Each sauna has a flat-screen TV mounted inside it so you can catch up on your favorite show as you sweat it out.

Unfortunately, however, there are no spas or pools at The Edge Fitness Clubs.

Drawbacks to The Edge

The Edge, overall, is an affordable and high-quality gym choice. But it’s not perfect and it won’t be the right fit for everyone.

To start, club hours can vary greatly by location and depending on the day. Weekend hours are typically short at Edge, with many clubs closing up by 7pm. This can lead to some overcrowding during peak hours.

Next, there’s no pool at The Edge. For many folks, this won’t be an issue, but if you’re keen on swimming workouts you’ll need to look elsewhere.

Finally, not everyone is a fan of the membership structure at this gym. It’s great that The Edge offers an affordable membership tier, but all of the gym’s best amenities will be off limits unless you’re willing to pony up for a more expensive package.

The Edge Fitness Club is really impressive, from the great class schedule to the state-of-the-art cardio cinema. Better yet, it all comes at an affordable price that compares favorably to most mid-range gyms.

Outside of the lack of a pool, the only real downside to The Edge is that there are only a few dozen of them across the country! But don’t worry, more are on the way soon. If you're lucky enough to have one of these gyms nearby, you’d be hard-pressed to do much better for the price.
