The Andrews government simply 'fixed what they broke, but in the most brutal way'

Sky News host Andrew Bolt says the Andrews government has only fixed what it broke, and “in the most brutal way, at a horrific cost - this long shutdown”.

Premier Daniel Andrews has finally green-lit the opening of retail, restaurants, hotels and cafes from Wednesday after Melburnians spent weeks in lockdown while case numbers were extremely low.

Mr Andrews said retail, restaurants, hotels, cafés and bars will reopen, with hospitality venues restricted to a maximum of 20 people indoors seated, with an outdoor capacity of 50 people.

“Now, a lot of Victorians will say, Premier Daniel Andrews, you're a hero. You fixed this. You stood strong, but you beat this virus,” Mr Bolt said.

“I have some sympathy for him. I do.

“But let's not forget it's Premier Andrews and his government who caused this disaster in the first place.

“They let the virus get out of their quarantine hotels, they didn't have proper tracing of the sick, and they didn't properly protect the elderly.

“Result: another 800 people died and hundreds of thousands of Victorians are out of work.

“So the Andrews government have only fixed what they broke and fixed in the most brutal way, at an horrific cost – this long shutdown.”

Mr Bolt said the state’s reopening was “far too slow”, with restaurants, no matter how big, still only allowed to hold a maximum 20 people.

“But whatever, thank God we at least have this,” he said.
