When Biden spoke of phasing out oil industry, 'a shiver went through the country'

When Joe Biden said he would start to phase out the oil industry in the United States at the most recent presidential debate, “a shiver went through the country”, according to Sky News political commentator Joe Hockey.

“All the key states in the election rely heavy on fossil fuels, all Americans are driving their fossil fuel cars.

“That can turn votes, and it can make Trump’s people to get out and vote."

Mr Hockey said President Trump will be on safe ground in the lead to the election if he and his base can direct debate to discussion of policies.

“In 2016 people voted for Donald Trump because of his policies,” Mr Hockey said.

“Today, people want Trump’s policies, but they want Biden’s demeanour.

“If you can get the whole debate to talk about policies, Donald Trump is back on safe ground and it exposes both Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

“Because yes, Kamala Harris is very liberal, very left wing … and now she’s being exposed, but it is a week out.”
