Andrews 'broke a contract with Victorians' in delaying reopening
Premier Daniel Andrews is undermining confidence in his own government by effectively breaking a contract with Victorians by pausing the further easing of lockdown measures, says Liberal MP Tim Wilson.
Mr Wilson told Sky News the Victorian government was deflecting blame for problems caused by issues within their own system.
“This frankly is despicable and disgraceful behaviour by the state government attacking Victorians rather than building up confidence in the system that we desperately need,” he said.
“I think it’s becoming increasingly difficult for people to [be compliant] when Dan Andrews has broken the contact he had with the people of Victoria.”
Mr Wilson said, however, despite the conflict surrounding Premier Andrews, it would not be advantageous to Victorians at this point in time for him to step down.
“When we’ve got a problem as we have now where you’ve basically got a runaway freight train, the main thing to do is to get it to stop, not to actually think the solution is to change the driver at this point,” he said.
He questioned how Victorians would be able to rebuild confidence in the premier “who basically signs contracts with the people and breaks those contracts at his own preferment and without any consultation or frankly any regard of the impact its having on people, Victorians and their lives.”
