Yang Hengjun’s release must be ‘front of mind’ for PM’s Beijing trip
Detained Australian writer Yang Hengjun must remain “front of mind” for Prime Minister Anthony Albanese when he visits China, says Acting Opposition Leader Sussan Ley.
Yang Hengjun’s family have written a letter to the Prime Minister pleading for him to champion their father's release when he visits China this week.
“Anyone who has read extracts from the letter from his sons to the Prime Minister absolutely feels for this family,” Ms Ley told Sky News Australia.
“To be in a tiny cell with no natural light and in a situation where his health is clearly deteriorating, this is an enormous worry.
“The Prime Minister is going to China – he should raise this forcefully with the president and the prime minister.”
