Family of detained Australian writer urges PM to negotiate with China for release
The family of detained Australian writer Yang Hengjun has written a letter to Anthony Albanese pleading for him to champion their father's release when he visits China this week.
The letter includes notes from Australian officials who said the writer's health is rapidly declining and he is not being given proper medical assistance.
The 57-year-old has been imprisoned for four years.
His family said the recent release of Australian journalist Cheng Lei inspired them to call on the Prime Minister to provide a second miracle.
Mr Albanese vowed to raise Dr Yang's release with China's leaders during his four-day trip to China.
