ACT to allow nurses and counsellors to discuss euthanasia with patients

A proposed legislation by the ACT government will allow nurses, social workers and counsellors to discuss voluntary assisted dying with patients.

The ACT is currently on track to host the most relaxed euthanasia laws in the country.

Terminally ill patients will have access to assisted dying without receiving an end-of-life time frame from a doctor.

The government is also looking to elevate the role nurses play in conducting assessments of a patient's eligibility.

It could include nurses playing a role in administering the lethal medication.
