Initial BEAD Awards Delayed as States Wait on a Required Agency Sign-off

Louisiana, Delaware and Nevada received approval from the NTIA on their final BEAD proposals in mid January, but they are not yet able to get access to the funds. Before that can happen, there needs to be a sign off by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), which is under the Commerce Department and serves like a clearinghouse for Federal financial assistance awards. NIST is also the agency that developed the Cybersecurity Framework that defines how BEAD subgrantees should implement cybersecurity protections on their funded networks. The delay in sign-off by NIST is most likely related to the transition in power between the Biden and Trump administrations. #BEADfunding #NTIA #nistha
