The Last Crowd - California Condors 463, 692 and 726 Converge and Depart
On November 19th I saw Pinnacles condors 463, 692 and their mate Ventana condor 726 together for the last time. During the month of December 2019 California condor (Gymnogyps californianus) 463 became stricken with lead poisoning, was captured for emergency treatment and entered a downward spiral of lead toxicosis before being euthanized in the turn of the New Year. I saw 463 and 692 at the end of November, but for whatever reason 726 was absent on that particular day. I appreciated the final fly-by the trio presented before they disappeared into the evening and I made my way back down the trail into the shadows of night. The audio which replaces the sandpapery sound of the wind at high peaks and an eerie grinding of my camera as it captures video is Rêve d'Enfant (pour Violon avec accompagnement d'orchestre réauit), Op. 14, composed by Eugène Ysaÿe, and first published in 1901 and dedicated to his son Antoine. It is here performed by Jean-Claude Féret and obtained from musopen.org.
