Mark Speakman ‘crazy’ for wanting a Big Australia
NSW Opposition Leader Mark Speakman is “crazy” for wanting a Big Australia which would see the population grow by more than 50 per cent in 40 years, says MacroBusiness co-founder Leith Van Onselen.
The NSW Liberal leader told The Daily Telegraph that without “significant population growth,” Australia risks not being able to “securely maintain occupation” of the continent.
Mr Speakman rolled back his comments on 2GB Radio in which he clarified that a “steady increase” in population will result in a stronger country and economy.
“The whole notion that we have to grow the population for our own security is quite frankly ridiculous,” Mr Onselen told Sky News host Amanda Stoker.
“It’s about time that politicians like Mark Speakman represent voters rather than their big business mates.”
