INSANE % Overclock: Intel Pentium E2160 Overclocked to 5.14GHz on LN2 (+185.56%).
So the second legacy CPU of the session was the quite popular Pentium E2160 from 2006 featuring the Allendale core. It is the middle range option from the E21xx Pentium lineup released around that time, with a stock frequency of 1.8GHz.
I used to run many of these CPUs over the years and they are quite funny processors to bin and overclock. On air/water cooling you generally have to bin both the actual core and the FSB. This particular E2160 is truly awesome, as it was able to take down all of the important top scores in those benches that were popular and relevant at the time. I managed to do the first ever sub 10 minute run in Super PI 32M, almost breaking the 20s barrier in Pifast, and a 5 second improvement in WPrime1024M. WPrime1024M I actually got even better run before that one I show on the video, but it crashed directly after finishing the test, and that would had been around 11 seconds faster than the previous top score by ObscureParadox. Of course I can always return to it and try to improve if I wish.
The toughest bench was definitely the Super PI 1M, as that requires great CPU clock frequency, and a well tuned OS. While running that I figured out that the first core of this particular chip is much better than the 2nd one. When I dropped the core count from 2 to 1 I was able to run Super PI 1M even at around 5.1GHz, which is a very fascinating speed for this 1.8GHz CPU. The max frequency during the session ended up being 5.14GHz, which is an astonishing +185.56% OVERCLOCK over the stock frequency. In more simple terms the performance of just the CPU is nearly 3 times faster than what it would be at stock, and when combining all of the components used in the system with their overclocks the performance is surely 3x times faster or more than what it would be at stock, so that is what I call overclocking.
Hardware used for the records:
Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2160 @ 4.88-5.14GHz on LN2
ASUS Rampage Extreme Motherboard (My 2nd Best one)
2x2GB Corsair Dominator GT 2000 CL7 @ 1800-1900MHz 6-6-4-18 1T
Nvidia Geforce 6500GT VGA
Super Flower Leadex 8Pack 2000W Platinum
Kingpin Cooling F1 Dark CPU LN2 Container
Kingpin Cooling KPx Thermal Paste
