Recap of previous LN2 session: 7740X, 7350K, Degraded 9900K etc and what will come next
So I wanted to make a fairly short recap of my previous LN2 session, what I managed to do and what to expect next on my channel.
So the both 7740X CPUs that I tested did not end-up doing that well. Both are great on water and can do 5.5GHz Cinebench on water with liquid metal. First one maxes out around 6.9 for Cinebench R15 so it is behind my original ES CPU. Second one scales well, but it hangs just before -150 degrees no matter what settings I apply on X299 OC Formula. Only thing left to try is the secret DMI voltage, which can be modded on other models too not just on Rampage VI Apex.
The 7350K I already covered on a different video. That ended-up maxing out at 6.65 with 6.45 cache, so it is too low for my needs as it is 100mhz behind the other CPU I tried.
3D went well atleast for the 7970 as it went up to new heights in terms of core speed. The worst part of the whole session, which limited 3D the most was the worsened quality of my R0 9900K ES, aka CPU degrading. The CPU can not achieve same clock speeds anymore what it used to, both on water and on LN2. The overall behaviour is very dodgy and unpredictable, so I don't have a rock-solid CPU anymore for serious 3D testing, for example with the 2080 ti kingpin. I also tested the GTX 680 Lightning on LN2 but it was far behind what is needed to challenge the top scores from kingpin for example.
So the good parts of the whole LN2 weekend or multiple days of LN2 testing were the 7970 and the Xeon L3014 scores. My L3014 is the first ever single core Xeon that went over 6GHz and next time I will take the GPUPI 1B score back as it takes over 30 minutes to pass.
What will be coming on the channel is some more thermal paste testing, the brand-new stuff from Thermalright and if it seems decent on water I will test it on LN2 aswell. Also new hardware is coming out on november 25th so stay tuned what I will post when NDA is lifted.
