We all make mistakes as we go through life, but if we’re smart, we learn from our mistakes and improve for the future. This especially applies to setting up a business for the first time.
For me, once I started getting my first clients, it was surprising how quickly things shifted. However, getting my first clients did not happen overnight. It wasn’t until, after years of trial and error, I finally went out to where I thought my clients would be and began offering them valuable content. If I had known what I know now, the process would have taken much less time; but like I mentioned, we learn from our mistakes.
When a woman became interested in the value I was providing and offered to hire me as a consultant, I had found my first paying client. This was a big step in setting up a business for the first time and it allowed me to eventually quit my full-time job. The way I got that first client was not through a sophisticated website or marketing funnel; it was by reaching out to prospects online and sharing valuable bits of information.
If I had to do it all over again, I would make sure to prioritize the connection with my audience. Even if you only have 30 minutes a day, taking the time to share something with prospects will help you to get those first paying customers.
We learn from our mistakes. Take my advice and focus on providing content to people. And if you really want to avoid costly mistakes while setting up a business for the first time, consider getting a coach to guide you along the way.
