Over the course of my time as a coach, I have learned some very valuable lessons that I wish I had been told when I was starting out. In this video, I want to share with you what I have learned from my own experience so that you can avoid some of the mistakes that I made.

The first lesson I had to learn was to prepare for failure. I had accepted that failure is just a part of entrepreneurship, but it took me a while to realize I had to take the next step: I had to actually prepare for failure.

The second lesson is that consistency always beats any one thing. Do your best with any one strategy, but keep in mind that in the long run, consistency is what matters. What I have learned is that showing up every day is the surest way to see results.

The third lesson is to not assume things. It's your responsibility to lay out your expectations. This is one of the most valuable lessons for a new coach to learn because it can prevent all kinds of miscommunications between you and the client.

Fourth, being kind does not mean being a pushover. When you hold everyone to the standards they agreed to, you're holding everyone accountable.

And the last lesson is that you can't make everyone happy. Sometimes someone is just not a good fit for you and that’s just the way things are.

I consider these all to be valuable lessons, and they make up an important part of what I have learned. If you want to be successful as a new coach, be sure to keep these five things in mind.
