How do I install the Radio Control Workings into my scratch-built Great Lakes freighter models ?

A lot of people have asked how I install the Radio Control Workings into my scratch-built Great Lakes freighter models? Here is the answer.
Keep in mind that this is just the way that I do it. I use vintage R/C equipment, circa 1994-95, which by the way replaced my vintage late 1970s R/C equipment. Indeed there is brand new stuff out there. But I have a fleet of nearly 50 model boats. Buying new stuff would require me to re-model the guts of every one of them. No thank you. Additionally the new stuff normally has the transmitter in the gun and wheel configuration. Sorry kids- this old fart likes his joysticks. I use two channels because... well... that's all ya' need. Rudder and throttle and ya' go sailing.
I began using this configuration in 1979 and had it fully settled in 1982. It's worked for me ever since.
