How did Liberia Get its Name?

Aside from the fact that it has one of the most unique histories in Africa, the fact that it's the only African nation to have been colonized by African Americans, the fact that it's one of only two African countries that were not colonized during Europe’s scramble for colonies, the fact that it is Africa’s oldest republic, the fact that the first female president on the continent calls it home and that its current president is the only African to have been named World Player of the Year, little else is known about the west African nation of Liberia. So how did Liberia get its Name?
